About the Project

The Vatican Library houses one of the oldest and largest collections of Syriac manuscripts in Europe. Its first published catalog of Syriac manuscripts (1758-59) included two hundred and fifty six items. Since then, the collection has grown to around a thousand individual manuscripts, among which are many unique items and some of the oldest and most important Syriac manuscripts anywhere in the world.
